I’ll admit, even though I like to be eco-conscious and use natural products, after cleansing my face with my normal makeup remover, I have never stopped to think, “where does that go after I toss it in the garbage?” That is, I never thought about it until after I received Kaia Naturals’s juicy bamboo gentle facial cleansing oil cloths when I attended a beauty trade show last year. The wipes are biodegradable, so much so, that the company’s website encourages consumers to plant the cloth in soil, water it and watch it disappear within 1-2 months.
The wipes are unique because they are not meant to be used as just a makeup remover; the unbleached cloths, which are made from bamboo, actually act a gentle cleanser that aims to clean without stripping the skin of natural oils. It can also be used all over the body, but I haven’t had to use it this way. I keep a pack of the cloths in my gym bag and use it to “wash” my face after a workout. When I do use it to remove my makeup, I use a few – two to remove the makeup and then one more as a cleanser, and this is probably my only complaint about the product: it’s great, will leave you feeling clean, but it could be bigger.
The fun packaging looks like a little juice carton and features a black and white straw peeking out of the yellow tinted box. Just like the cloths, the box and straw are both biodegradable, so you can be rest-assured that when you use this product you can feel good knowing you helped minimize negative impacts on the environment.
