Last week I attained the Spring/Summer Indonesian Diversity show at NYFW at The Dream hotel in Chelsea. The amazing show featured five Indonesian designers, who presented their luxury collections, two of which featured models wearing traditional headwear. I created a video of the presentations by Vivi Zubedi and Dian Pelangi, which you can view on my Instagram here.
Designer Barli Asmara amazed everyone in the room with a collection of whimsical white lace gowns, which were inspired by purity and Middle Eastern architecture. Each dress was beautifully complimented by dazzling earrings. I created and posted a video of this presentation on my Instagram page, as well. Click here to view it.
Other designers included Riza Assegaf and Fara Shahab, Catherine Njoo, and Melia Wijaya. All were amazing, and I’m hoping to post videos of them soon!
Last year, Anniesa Hasibuan, a designer from Indonesia showcased, for the first time ever, a collection where every model wore a beautifully designed hijab matched with glamorous gowns and suits. This show provided a platform where similar designers can have a voice and presence amid a tense political and social climate.
