Perhaps no makeup launch is as highly anticipated than that of Pat McGrath Labs. On Tuesday night, the internationally renowned makeup artist invited a group of beauty editors and makeup artists to The Gramercy Park Hotel in New York City to reveal what she says, “will change everything for the brand.”
As I walked into the unveiling of Pat’s latest collection, I was both a little scared and intrigued while moving my way through a pitch-dark corridor, dimly lit by the flickers of candle lights that adorned the floor. The lighting led the way to a beautiful room that showcased her brand’s latest innovation: a 60 piece collection for eyes and lips called, Pat McGrath Labs Unlimited Edition.
Dressed in all-black, the makeup artist affectionately known in the industry as “Mother,” sat casually on a couch circled by attendees as she introduced the new products and packaging, encouraging everyone to visit makeup artist stations to test the products themselves.
The collection includes a trio of Mothership Eye Pallets ($125) featuring ten shades, each represented by a theme: The Subliminal (minimalist hues); The Sublime (metallic and smoky shades); and, The Subversive (vibrant, avant-garde colors). There are also forty lipsticks ($38), eleven lip liners ($25), five eye pencils ($25), and one mascara ($28). The product packaging features illustrations from global artists who Pat contacted via social media. Also included on the packaging gold icons, which indicate the brand and the type of product.
After testing the products, I am obsessed. Everything, from the eye shadows to the lip pencils, glides on dreamily with huge color payoffs with one swipe. Below are some swatches.
The collection begins rolling out on September 16th on patmcgrath.com, and at Sephora stores and Sephora.com on October 4th. Fans are invited to visit patmcgrath.com to sign up for a chance to win the full collection, and word is, if you are signed up for the newsletter, you may receive an invite for a special pre-sale.
