Seeing Red at New York Fashion Week

As I look back on the fashions that flowed down the runway at New York Fashion week, I couldn’t help but notice that scarlet red made a powerful statement in numerous shows this season. The crimson color may be Spring 2011’s new black. Perhaps the bright hue was meant to add a burst of color to contrast the white slush still lurking on the corners on NYC sidewalks. Here are my favorites:

Elie Tahari's Fall 2011 collection included rich furs and delicate chiffons.
Naeem Khan's Fall 2011 collection featured red patent embroidery and ornate prints.
The Chinese-inspired show of The Blonds' highlighted sparkly headgear, kimono-like gowns, and lots of sequins and beading.
Marchesa Fall 2011 Collection was inspired by inspired by Great Expectations' Miss Havisham.
