Vera Wang’s David’s Bridal collection

Mariah Carey wore a Vera Wang gown with a 27-foot train when she married Tommy Mottola in 1993.

Almost every female who has spent any time dreaming about her future wedding, swoons at the thought of a Vera Wang gown. When the designer label hosts its yearly sample sale in New York, women would camp outside the store at the crack of dawn with the hopes of scoring a beautiful gown for 25-75% off the original retail price. Celebrities even line up and pay thousands of dollars to wear a one-of-a-kind gown by Vera Wang, who is responsible for the wedding dresses worn by Chelsea Clinton, Ivanka Trump, Heidi Klum, Jennifer Lopez, and Hilary Duff, to name a few.

The designer’s name is synonymous with high fashion bridal wear, elegance, luxury, and above else, a hefty price tag. In the past, the average bride may not have been able to afford a Vera Wang gown; but now, they can with her “White” Collection for David’s Bridal. The new line debuted in stores on February 11th with prices ranging from $600-$1500. All of the dresses are spectacular, as noting less would be expected of the designer. But, with Vera Wang now being accessible to a larger market with such low prices, does that devalue the line’s highly coveted glamorous factor?

  1. It was a shock when Vera Wang announced that she was dropping her bridesmaid line from boutique stores. And she had the absolute nerve to do it during the Bridal market week…the biggest selling point of bridal and bridesmaids fasions! She didn’t just pull one store, she pulled all of her stores investing all of bridesmaids into David’s Bridal. How uncouth! Many of these bridal chains have now lost a good chunk of their businesses, so I encourage designers (especially bridesmaids) to start investing in those boutiques looking to replace their Vera bridesmaids line.
