Although her drama-free life doesn’t get too much attention on Bravo’s Real Housewife of Beverly Hills, Adrienne Maloof’s fashion style is always a show-stopper. Recently, I raved about the glittery Gianmarco Lorenzi Gregory Shoes she wore on the season finale of her hit show, but one other glitter accessory of Adrienne’s is getting a lot of attention, and that’s the bling in her hair. The star had PopTinsel glitter extensions added to her blonde locks at Amp Salon at the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas, which her family owns. Soon after, The Hills star Whitney Port blogged that she and her best friend had metallic extensions added to their hair at Drybar in West Hollywood.
This trend isn’t new. Always a trendsetter, Beyonce wore hair tinsel at the 2010 Grammy Awards, and pop star Ke$ha has also been seen wearing the glittery strands in her hair.
You don’t have to be a celebrity to pull this trend off. You can buy the glitz extensions for relatively cheap prices in a variety of different colors, and use it to add some flair to your tresses.
Hair tinsel can be tied and even glued into your hair. If your going to do it yourself, make sure you purchase good quality tinsel that can withstand heat styling and washing. In other words, you really shouldn’t use the same tinsel you use to decorate your Christmas tree, or your look may look tacky instead of glamorous.
To tie it into your hair, line the tinsel up with a few strands of hair, wrap the hair into a loop and pull the tinsel and hair through your fingers as if you are creating a tiny slip knot. Once the knot is created, pull the hair apart from the tinsel; this will create a knot very close to the scalp. Repeat this on several pies of hair until you achieve your desired look. You can also bring the hair tinsel to your salon and your stylist can insert them for you. Soon you’ll be on your way to shiny, shimmery strands.
