When the United States Army revised its grooming and appearance regulations at the beginning of the year, it lifted its ban on dreadlocks, allowing female soldiers the ability to wear their natural hair. This was a major milestone for black women servicing our country, who may have had to take on costly and sometimes damaging hair treatments to meet compliance rules.
